| Potty
Monkey is REALLY STUPID and REALLY SMART at the same time. Plus, it's also
an impressive piece of technology! Permit
us to TRY to describe this amazing toy... Potty
Monkey begins with an adorable, 15" stuffed monkey in a diaper and
underwear. But inside this cuddly exterior, lurks sophisticated technology
designed to teach children how to use the toilet. A
timer of some sort is built into the Potty Monkey. Every 30 minutes (or 90
minutes, if you choose), the Monkey will say, "I need to go potty.
Let's go potty." When you do the right thing and place him on his
plastic toilet, the Monkey will say all sorts of things. For instance, he
might say, "I feel proud of myself when I pee-pee and poo-poo on
the potty." Or, "I really like to let the pee-pee out of
my tummy. It feels so much better now." Our favorite is when he
sings a silly song based on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star -- "Tinkle,
tinkle, and poo-poo. I feel better how 'bout you?" But
let's back up and suppose you DON'T put him on the potty when he
asks. The longer you ignore him, the more he pleads. "I
really need to go potty! Let's go potty!!" And if you are callous
enough to ignore him again, he says, "Hey, take me to the potty
now or I'll have an accident!" And if you wait much longer,
"Oh no! I had an accident! Please take me to the potty next
time." We're
amazed at the technology that went into Potty Monkey. First, there has to
be a timer connected to a high-quality voice chip. Then, there has to be
some sort of sensor in the Monkey that recognizes when it has been seated
on the toilet. The Monkey is programmed to respond differently depending
on what you do and how long you take to do it. It's amazing! (Even the
toilet has technology built into it. When the Monkey is done with his, er,
monkey business, you press a button to hear a flushing sound.) As
hilarious as this is, Potty Monkey is also an effective toilet training
tool. Kids will have a blast bringing him to the toilet when his secret
timer goes off. (Actually, knowing kids, they'll have more fun ignoring
him and letting him suffer.) Potty
Monkey comes in an attractive box and includes two books -- One book is a
serious potty training guide for adults. The other is a children's book
starring the Potty Monkey. The
Stupid Staff has been fighting over the sample Potty Monkey in the office
-- Marni in Customer Service has
already bonded with him, but Mr. Stupid plans on bringing it home for his
kids. (Since Marni is already toilet trained, the kids will probably win
out.) |
